NSEN-4501 Technical Writing for Engineers and Scientists Note: The following provides a suggested course description, objectives, and an outline. These may be modified pending discussion with the Faculty Chairs, proposing faculty, and other curriculum reviewers. Course Description: This course introduces the skills required to present technical information to a variety of audiences. Students examine different types of technical writing such as memos, reports, proposals, and technical and user manuals. They analyze the characteristics of the various technical documents and the expectations of the intended audience for those documents, and are instructed in the skills of technical composition. Students are also introduced to the principles of rhetoric and practice the composition of unambiguous and persuasive pieces of technical writing for designated audiences. Additionally students are instructed in writing in a collaborative environment and in the use of basic principles of page design and typography to communicate information with greater accessibility and clarity..
