the Faculty Chairs, proposing faculty, and other curriculum
reviewers.
Course Description: This course examines the
techniques used in retrieval of information from text-based information
systems. Topics include text representation; text indexing; vector spaces
and probabilistic retrieval models; text statistics; document clustering;
document filtering; and interface issues. Some topics will be concerned
with Web searching including crawling; link-based algorithms; Web
metadata; and collaborative filtering systems.
